SITE Crystal Award 2026

Excellence in Incentive Travel — Latin America & Caribbean

Awarded to VAOVA for A Tale Woven Between Cultures — a 4-night Bogotá incentive for 400 Quálitas executives. A welcome on the 32nd floor of the city's tallest tower, a privatized Sabana Train to Zipaquirá, a gala built inside Teatro Faenza. Sixty percent of the budget went into Colombian culture.

The Crystal Awards have honored incentive travel excellence since 1977. Less than 10 programs receive a Crystal each year, and the Latin America & Caribbean category specifically recognizes the program that best demonstrates strategic, creative and operational mastery in the region.

The winning program

A Tale Woven Between Cultures.

November 2024. Four hundred Quálitas executives — Mexico's leading vehicle insurer — landing in Bogotá. The company was entering Colombia as a market. The incentive had to put the country on their map, and Bogotá on the incentive map.

This was the largest international incentive Bogotá had hosted. Incentive travel was still new for the capital. A site inspection convinced the client the city was the right stage. ProColombia helped line up the arrivals. El Espectador and Noticias RCN both report that more than fifty local partners built the program.

El Nuevo Siglo reports that the program mobilized US$1.18 million and assigned about 60 percent of the budget to Colombian cultural experiences — not to logistics dressed as a program. Three nights did the work the Crystal recognized.

  1. The welcome

    32nd floor. Torre Atrio.

A private dinner in a room that had never hosted a corporate event. El Nuevo Siglo names the welcome at Torre Atrio, staged as a Carnaval de Barranquilla. Bogotá at their feet. The first night tells the group they are not in a ballroom they already know.

  2. The train

The Sabana Train, privatized, to Zipaquirá.

Ninety minutes to the Salt Cathedral. El Espectador and Blu Radio describe the public tourist train as a moving stage: artists, dancers, musicians and storytellers in the carriages. Bogotá’s convention bureau helped open the route.

  3. The gala

    Teatro Faenza. Gabotero.

A signature dinner in Bogotá’s oldest cinema. El Espectador and Blu Radio report that Ballet Metropolitano de Medellín performed Gabotero — a work inspired by Gabriel García Márquez and Fernando Botero — inside a house that was never designed for a gala.

“This win shows that creativity, storytelling and genuine hospitality can turn our city into an extraordinary stage for global events. Colombia's identity is our greatest competitive advantage.”

Juan Pablo Toro · Founder & CEO, VAOVA

According to the official SITE Crystal case study, the client reported a 49 percent revenue result within six months. That figure is client-reported to SITE; VAOVA does not present it as a causal claim. Bogotá also started receiving new international incentive leads after the program.

National recognition

Three times recognized by ProColombia.

ProColombia is the Government of Colombia's official trade and tourism promotion agency. Its annual recognitions are based on innovation, destination positioning and measurable contribution to Colombia's tourism industry.

Frequently asked

What these credentials actually mean.

The shortest possible answers — the ones we wish more incentive travel websites would just write down.

What is the SITE Crystal Award and why does it matter?
The SITE Crystal Awards are the most prestigious global recognition in the incentive travel industry, awarded annually by the SITE Foundation since 1977. Fewer than 10 Crystals are given globally each year. VAOVA won the 2026 Latin America & Caribbean Crystal for A Tale Woven Between Cultures: a 4-night Bogotá incentive for 400 Quálitas executives — welcome on the 32nd floor of Torre Atrio, a privatized Sabana Train to the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, and a Teatro Faenza gala with Gabotero by Ballet Metropolitano de Medellín, as independently reported by El Espectador, El Nuevo Siglo and Blu Radio.
What is ProColombia and what do its recognitions represent?
ProColombia is the Government of Colombia's official trade and tourism promotion agency. VAOVA has won three ProColombia National Tourism Awards: in 2020 for leadership in innovative tourism strategies, in 2021 for positioning Colombia as an events hub through a differentiating strategy, and in 2025 for tourism innovation. Together, they validate VAOVA's ability to create demand for Colombia, adapt under pressure and turn corporate travel into distinctive destination experiences.
How many incentive travel awards has Colombia won historically?
Very few. The SITE Crystal Award 2026 won by VAOVA is one of a small handful of Crystals ever awarded to Colombia-based DMCs in the history of the award, which strongly contributes to positioning the country as an emerging destination for incentive travel in Latin America.
Where can I see VAOVA's strategic partnerships and memberships?
Awards and alliances are kept on separate pages on purpose. The complete strategic alliance network — global DMC partner, SITE membership, country-specific international representation in five markets and the Colombian convention bureaus — is listed in the Strategic Alliances page.
